Burning Daylight

"Slap some bacon on a biscuit and let's go! We're burning daylight."
Mr Anderson, The Cowboys

Woke at 4 this morning, brewed some coffee and I was on my way. Left behind a camp full of tents.

I am on my own trekking cycle. Notice I did not say "time". I am not carrying a keeper of "time". This trek is about living in the moment, living according to how my body feels, hiking until I don't want to hike. So it was this morning that I didn't wait for anyone to wake and join me. It made all the difference. I moved along on my own in the early morning quiet, watching as the world came alive.

I am having a beer here in Mount Laguna, mile 42. A grand morning of hiking. Planning on another 6-10 miles before my head hits my clothes stuffed pillow.

I will not be, "burning daylight" , Mr Anderson.

  1. I read this the other day Gilbert and it made me think of you:

A man practices the art of adventure when he breaks the chain of routine and renews his life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new friends, taking up new hobbies and adopting new viewpoints.” — Wilfred Peterson

  2. I just read your posts to your mom. She is happy the rabbit is with you, but not happy you went out alone today. So, she is sending you a virtual scolding. Richard told me to tell you to quit writing like you think you are Mckey Spaleni
